In addition there are 415 institutions for diploma in pharmacy, 63 for hotel management, and 25 for architecture. The proportion of polytechnics is high in the southern states (46%). Over the years, the diploma courses have lost the skill components because of diluted version of degree education. AICTE has permitted evening shifts in the engineering colleges and polytechnics, subject to court directions in new states. Laboratory practices are performed as per requirements in specific subjects. Many of the polytechnics have acquired plenty of audio visual hardware through special schemes of the central government.
